The vice chief of police for minor crimes in Siem Reap and five other officers are facing a lawsuit after allegedly bursting into the wrong house in a bid to serve an arrest warrant.
Apsara News Network news reporter Tang Ho, 35, filed a complaint in the provincial court yesterday morning accusing Hong Bun Hav and the officers of “destroying his honour” by storming into his house and dragging him out while carrying out an arrest warrant meant for a similarly named suspect.
Ho claims the situation has affected his personal life, saying that he was publicly humiliated as people now look at him as though he had committed a crime.
“I’m hoping the court will bring justice to me, and I am asking [for] $10,000 compensation,” he said.
Responding to Ho’s complaint, Bun Hav said: “I will go to the court to clarify things when the court calls me to . . . and then we will see who is a liar and who tells the truth.”
Bun Hav maintains he and the officers didn’t do anything wrong.
“We just went there to clarify his identity after I received an arrest warrant from the court and the name on the warrant was Ei Tang Ho.”
