Twenty-six repatriated in August, says Ministry

Form maids to brides, 26 Cambodians were repatriated to their homeland from neighbouring countries this month, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, it said the Cambodians were brought home from Shanghai, Indonesia and Malaysia.

“Seven women went to China as brides through marriage brokers. They returned to Cambodia on August 9. In one case, 10 Cambodian women were rescued from Shangai. They had gone there through brokers and stayed illegally,” said the statement.

The women were from Kandal, Kampot, Kampong Speu, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmom, Takeo, Ratanakiri, Svay Rieng, and Phnom Penh, said the statement.
