US’ 1M doses of J&J Covid jabs to arrive “soon”

The US has renewed its pledge to provide more than one million doses of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine to Cambodia, with their shipment expected soon.

US ambassador to Cambodia Patrick Murphy said his government is coordinating with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF to ship the vaccines through the WHO-led Covax Facility.

“We are working closely with the Royal Government, #COVAX, @WHO & @UNICEF to deliver those doses very soon,” Murphy tweeted on July 23.

The fresh pledge came after the Japanese government donated one million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured in Japan to Cambodia through Covax, with their batches scheduled to touch down tonight.

Prime Minister Hun Sen will be present at Phnom Penh International Airport to personally welcome their arrival.
