The General Department of Taxation (GDT) has reminded property owners in Phnom Penh and other provinces to settle their property tax and unused land tax for 2023 to avoid a rush before Sept 30, or risk facing a penalty if they fail to do so by the deadline.
Taxpayers can pay at the headquarters or at any of the provincial or commune GDT branches where the property is located, partner bank branches or via the GDT taxpayer app, it said in an announcement, adding that it noticed a number of property owners have yet to settle their property tax obligations.
“Property owners who fail to file tax returns on time would be subjected to administrative penalties according to the Law on Taxation. The GDT strongly hopes that after receiving this notice, all property owners would fulfill their tax obligations on time,” the GDT said.
Kim Heang, regional operating principal of KW Cambodia, urged property owners to meet their tax obligations properly and on time because filing tax returns is the “duty of every citizen”.
He asked that more publicity about tax obligations is made so that people understand and receive adequate and timely information.
As of September 18, property tax revenue was nearly 72 per cent of the plan, less than two weeks before the September 30 deadline, the GDT said.
In 2022, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction approved 4,275 construction investment projects, down 28 projects or 0.65 per cent from a year earlier.
This represented a total registered capital of nearly $3 billion, down 46.8 per cent year-on-year from $5.6 billion, according to data published by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The finance ministry’s statistics indicated that the housing segment represented 3,768 of the projects – up from 3,720 a year earlier – or an 88.1 per cent share of the total, up from 86.5 per cent in 2021.
The ministry broke down the 2022 approvals by category: residential (3,768), commercial (228), industrial (184), public (58), tourism (36) and other (1). The corresponding 2021 figures were: residential (3,720), commercial (301), industrial (184), public (47), tourism (49) and others (2).
