After more than a millennium in existence, Cambodia’s traditional two-stringed chapey has finally gone electric. National Bank of Cambodia worker Long Borarith, 36, noticed that when chapey masters would play for a crowd, a microphone had to be placed by the sound box. With a passion for playing the instrument himself, and a background in electrical engineering, Borarith figured that turning the chapey up to 11 would be a breeze.
