Cambodia’s stock of qualified national basketball referees grew substantially on Friday after 35 individuals passed a referee training course held at the National Sports Training Center in the National Sports Complex.
The three-day course, which was presided over by Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport secretary and Cambodian Basketball Federation president Sean Borath, was participated by dederation members and members of the ministry’s departments from Kandal, Takeo, Siem Reap, Kampong Speu, Kampot, Kampong Chhnang, Battambang, Kampong Thom and Steung Treng provinces.
“From now on, our referees have to know the rules in leading the game and knowledge about the English language in order to become world standard referees. As we prepare to host the SEA Games in 2023, we have to train our referees up to international standard,” Sean Borath told the Post.
The course was led by International Basketball Federation (FIBA) official Matid Veselin and FIBA Asia technical referee Lee Kak Kuan.
