Cambodia hosts table tennis championship

The 9th ASEAN Table Tennis Championship will begin six days of killer spinning action today at the Booyoung Khmer Taekwondo Center of the National Sport Complex.

According to Cambodia Table Tennis Federation president Rath Sakhorn, who is personally financing the entire cost of the tournament, expected to be around $100,000, the Kingdom will enter six players in men’s singles, men’s doubles and men’s team events out of the seven events to be contested in Phnom Penh.

Other nations sending competitors include Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos and Myanmar.

“Cambodia is hosting the event, as we look to enhance the activities of sport federations which have yet to win medals [in international competitions],” National Olympic Committee of Cambodia secretary general Vath Chamroeun told reporters during a press conference on Tuesday.
