Cambodian mixed martial artist Meas Meu has promised to come back stronger than ever after his first round knockout loss to Edward “the Ferocious” Kelly at ONE: Global Superheroes at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila last weekend.
After his first defeat in MMA, Meu drops to a six win, one loss record but has vowed to come back “better than ever”.
“I feel really ashamed of myself to lose the way I did on that night. I’m better than that and I want another chance to prove it. I just got caught, but Edward was the better fighter that night.
“For this fight I had a great camp and I felt great coming into the bout, but I feel I have more to offer.
“Edward was the better man but next time it will be different. I hope to get another chance in the ONE cage – I feel I let everyone down including myself.
“It’s my first ever loss and it will make me better than ever.”Filipino featherweight standout Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly delivered a sensational first-round knockout of opponent Meas Meu, dropping the Cambodian with a high kick just seconds into the bout. At the opening bell, Kelly engaged Meu in the centre of the cage and connected on a quick three-punch combination before delivering the final blow that sent Meul face first into the canvas.
In the main event, Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio of Baguio City, Philippines clinched the ONE interim flyweight championship, edging Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov by unanimous decision in an exciting five-round title fight.
Although Akhmetov managed to showcase his wrestling, it was largely ineffective against Eustaquio, who was far superior in the striking department for the majority of the bout.
Eustaquio repeatedly connected on Akhmetov with crisp, clean combinations throughout the contest.
