Competitors cross the finishing line in the KARA Cup Race 2016 on Koh Pich on Sunday. The weekend’s motorcycle action was part of a "drive to encourage young people who love riding motorbikes to join official races, because racing on the streets is of great concern to the public as it causes serious traffic accidents", said Meach Sophana, president of KARA (Kampuchea Autosport Racing Agency).
The races were divided into four categories ranging from 100cc to 150cc. The overall winner went home with $300, the runner-up $200 and third place received $100.
The KARA Cup will return next year but Sophana said the federation is aiming to find greater sponsorship to organise more motor events for the Kingdom’s racers and hire foreign coaches to train promising talent to take part in international events.
