Sor Sey is stopped in quest for Gold by Phoe Thaw

Cambodian MMA star Sor Sey was stopped by local hero Phoe “Bushido” Thaw after a push kick to the head in the first round of their bout at ONE: Quest for Gold in Myanmar’s Yangon on Friday night.

Thaw, a specialist in Burmese kickboxing style lethwei, traded powerful strikes with Sor, a khun Khmer practitioner, in the centre of the cage.

When a left rocked Sor, Thaw moved in with a follow-up kick and the referee called a halt to the fight.

The end came after 1:53 minutes of round one, sending the fanatical Thuwunna Indoor Stadium crowd wild.

In the main event, “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang took the vacant ONE light-heavyweight title with a KO victory over Alexandre Machado of Brazil.

Aung La N Sang took just 56 seconds to end the fight, knocking Machado out with a high kick.

“I want to be the best, and I want to defend these two belts. I’m not just going to hold them and leave,” Aung La N Sang told the crowd after the fight.

Aung La N Sang now holds the ONE middleweight championship and light-heavy championship belts.
