When will it end? (Part III): The Cambodian-Americans of the ‘Minnesota 8’ deported to a country they had never known


In 2016, eight Cambodian-Americans in Minnesota were detained under the 1996 Immigration Act facing the threat of deportation.

The following April, four of the eight were sent to Cambodia – the country their families fled to avoid the war thirty years before.

The families of the men launched a public advocacy campaign to fight the deportation orders, as well as the right to return for those who have been deported.

The group became known as the Minnesota 8.
