Charity concert planned for November 26

On the evening of November 26, 2022, there will be a charity concert organized by Eden Garden Market and the classical music group Musica Felice to raise funds for Mercy Village School in Boeung Tumpun 1 commune of Meanchey district.

The charity concert will be performed at Eden Garden Market in Srah Chak commune of Daun Penh district from 5:30pm to 7pm.

In addition, there will also be paintings by Yame Rin for sale. Rin is a member of the Church of Mercy and an art teacher. All proceeds will go to Mercy Village School, which Rin founded.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children and $3 for Cambodian students and can be purchased at Eden Garden market and Palace Gate Hotel & Resort.

Yame Rin posted to Facebook, recalling the origins of the Mercy Village school.

“In 2017, all the villagers' houses were burned down. And the people here have jobs as scrap collectors or as construction workers and their children did not have the opportunity to go to school and they could not read or write.

“In 2018, I quit my job, which was as the head of an organization and also a teacher at that organization, to come and live with the Mercy villagers,” he said.

Rin said that growing up he was also a scavenger and was taken in by a foreigner to study at a church, so he came to help the people in Mercy Village by establishing a school and church there.

Mercy Village School currently offers music, guitar, piano and violin classes in addition to regular school subjects from kindergarten to grade 7.

“My dream is to help them here, especially to have educated children and good jobs in the future. And I’m really happy and want to see the Cambodian people have compassion for the people in the community of Mercy Village,” said Rin.
