Cambodia is currently in the process of finalising the Comprehensive Intermodal Transport Master Plan 2022-2030 (CIT-MP), which includes plans for 150 hard and soft infrastructure development projects and requires an investment of $30 billion, according to Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol.
He said the development of transport infrastructure and connectivity remains a main strategy of the government to stimulate the national economy.
The minister made the remarks while presiding over the Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia forum hosted by Cambodia, alongside Young Tae Kim, secretary-general of the International Transport Forum (ITF) on April 28.
Chanthol said that the Bassac River Navigation and Logistics System project is receiving more attention, as well as the expansion of a deep seaport in Sihanoukville in the first, second and third phases.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on May 1 for the port expansion and will be presided over by Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The ministry said Cambodia was the first country in Southeast Asia to join the ITF in 2022. As a member, Cambodia can contribute, share and learn from developed member countries’ experiences and good practices to improve the Kingdom’s efficient and sustainable logistics and transport systems.
