Interior minister Sar Kheng on March 16 advised that the Police Academy of Cambodia (PAC) ensure at least two women among the ranks of each subordinate unit, as a step towards gender equality, according to an interior ministry statement.
Speaking while chairing a meeting on this year’s action plans for the PAC at the ministry’s headquarters, Sar Kheng mentioned that among the government’s other gender-equality policies is to seek to have at least two women in deputy provincial governor positions across the Kingdom, the statement noted.
At the meeting, PAC president General Seng Phally affirmed that the actions plans – which he stressed are in line with the PAC’s 2019-2023 strategic plan – centre on improving the efficiency and capabilities of the academy, with emphasis on police science research, to bring the institution to desired quality and standards.
The plans also aim to enhance the quality and professional capacity of National Police personnel and prison officials as “core forces”, with attention to cooperation, real-world knowledge, ethics, legal compliance, human rights, accountability, advanced tools and equipment, and better serving the people and the country, he said.
Sar Kheng expressed confidence in the success of the 2023 action plans and implementation thereof, particularly in terms of strengthening the quality of training for National Police personnel at all levels.
