A Chinese construction company presented their feasibility study to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport on the construction of a third ringroad of 34.15 km in length for Phnom Penh, estimated to cost $240 million, according to the transport ministry.
Shanghai Construction Group Co Ltd presented their study to the transport ministry on March 10 to explain technical aspects of the construction and get more input from the ministry in a meeting led by the ministry secretary of state Lim Sindenin and attended by other officials.
According to the company’s study, the third ringroad would be located to the east of the capital. It would have four lanes, two going each way. It would start from National Road 6 and link Win-Win Blvd to Road 70B and cross two islands, Koh Dach and Koh Tang.
The project would require constructing three bridges across the Mekong River, starting with a 1,311-metre bridge from National Road 6 to Koh Dach, a Koh Dach-Koh Tang bridge of 579 metres, and Koh Tang-Road 70B bridge of 1,044 metres.
The ministry’s experts provided input on technical aspects to make the construction effective and sustainable, such as the construction of a vehicle parking lot. They also suggested more studies be done on the geography and the flow of the water through dams.
